GENERAL INFORMATION:
Read your @ UCSD email! Chemistry/Biochemistry announcements about wait lists, schedule changes and cancellations, and lab safety exams are sent by email to your ucsd.edu email account. For information on your ucsd.edu email account and procedures for forwarding messages to an alternative email address, visit http://www-acms.ucsd.edu/students/email
Effective Fall 2008, students are now only permitted one "W" grade per course at UCSD. This regulation pertains to "W" grades received beginning Fall 2008 and later. Any "W" grades received prior to Fall 2008 will not be affected by this new regulation.
If you are repeating the course in which you previously received a "W", you must drop by Friday of Week 4 or complete the course (and ultimately receive a grade). Students will no longer be able to receive multiple "W" grades for the same course. The new "W" regulation also affects repetition of *lab courses*, please see notes in the section regarding "ADD/DROP DEADLINE FOR CHEMISTRY LABORATORY COURSES".

TRANSFER COURSES AND PREREQUISITES
If you completed a Chemistry course prerequisite at another college, and the credit does not appear on your UCSD transcript, go to York Hall 4010 prior to your registration date to make sure your prerequisites have been cleared.

ADDING AND DROPPING COURSES
WebReg is used for adds of open sections through the end of the add period and drops through the drop deadline. If you are pre-authorized by the department to add a course, you still must log on to WebReg and add it.

WAITLIST PROCEDURES
See http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/wait for waitlist instructions.

ADD/DROP DEADLINE FOR CHEMISTRY LABORATORY COURSES
The deadline to add, or to drop a CHEM lab course without a "W", is the end of the second lab meeting.

ATTENDANCE AT THE FIRST LAB MEETING IS MANDATORY
Check the individual class schedules for first-day information. Students who miss the first 30 minutes of the first lab meeting of the quarter will be administratively dropped from the course. Come prepared to work: bring textbook, lab notebook, lab coat, closed shoes, and goggles.

LABORATORY SAFETY REQUIREMENT
All students in CHEM 7L, 100A, 143AH, and 143A are required to demonstrate an understanding of general lab safety and of the UCSD Undergraduate Chemistry Lab Rules. Passing the Lab Safety Exam fulfills this requirement: students who do not pass the Lab Safety Exam may be administratively dropped from the course with a grade of "W", if applicable. Please refer to the notes at the beginning of the Chemistry and Biochemistry section regarding "W" grades or see http://senate.ucsd.edu/manual/Regulations/Part1/500. htm. Lab Safety Training is a self-study program for students in the Teaching Labs. Each student is responsible for learning the materials presented. Information on general lab practices and our specific rules can be found on the web at: http://www-chem.ucsd.edu/academic/courses_labs.cfm
FEES FOR LABORATORY COURSES
Students who enroll in CHEM lab courses are charged a lab fee assessed with Registration fees. This fee is $40 for Chem 7L, and $50 for Chem 100A, 100BL 105A, 105B, 143A and 143AH. Additionally, the lab fee for CHEM 143C is $55.00, for CHEM 143B and 143D fees are $60, and for CHEM 108, 109 and 123 fees are $75.
CHEM 4 labs begin Friday, September 30, 2011.
